update to a case that we covered last fall. You might remember the case of

Carter Bowman. The 30-year-old was arrested in October of last year and charged with poisoning his wife Betty.

One of the things that made the case notable was that Connor was a former Mayo Clinic medical

resident who had previously worked on as a poison specialist for shame.

On August 16th, 2023, Betty was hospitalized with symptoms that appeared like food poisoning.

She told a friend that she thought the culprit had been a smoothie

that she had the previous night at home with her husband.

However, four days later on August 20th, Betty was dead. An obituary blamed her death on a sudden onset

autoimmune and infectious illness. Connor claimed that Betty had a rare autoimmune disease

where white blood cells attack other blood cells, but tests were inconclusive.

Connor tried his darndest to have Betty cremated immediately, and even went so far as trying to get an autopsy cancelled.

His efforts were unsuccessful.

When he was finally arrested, part of the evidence against Connor

were Google searches where he converted Betty's weight into milligrams

to buy the proper amount of liquid colchosine he would use to poison her.

I'm really shocked this guy didn't make it to our Hall of Fame. He's darn close I think. The story

ultimately seems to be a classic one. Carter was in money trouble and had a

five hundred thousand dollar life insurance policy on Betty.
