0:52.0 | And bring it in guys that played that played at a high level that had success at a high level and coach Chris slayed from pace academy here in Atlanta. |
1:01.0 | The all time sack leader, like I said, in ACC at Virginia with 40, which is amazing in this day and time. And I want to get into that because they weren't spreading the ball out like crazy and dropping back and doing all that stuff as much. |
1:11.0 | But very excited to have you here, all pro pro bowl or played for the Patriots under Bill Belichick, Bill Parcells, which I know had to be just an incredible experience and something you probably take from now when you're coaching your young men to get them prepared like they they were. |
1:24.0 | But I want to tell you man, I really appreciate you coming on man. Thanks for guys having me on is a delight to be here. I heard a lot about your show and happy to be here and it's awesome. So let's get it going. |
1:33.0 | I appreciate it. And look, we get right we get right to business here. And I want to start just with your playing days, you know, at Virginia, you hear a sack number like 40. That's incredible. |
1:42.0 | You look at your NFL numbers. They're incredible. You were a guy that that, you know, they put out there on the coin toss that they obviously trusted. But, you know, playing defensive line, the way that you did. And I always say on this show, it starts and ends up front. I don't care what you run on the defensive line. |
1:57.0 | Who's ever winning that battle is probably going to win the game. Can you talk about what it means to play in those trenches and be there in the effect that that has on the game if you can dominate the way that you did. |
2:05.0 | Just to your point, I mean, the game is one upfront. I mean, when when's the losses are one upfront, you got to be able to control the line of scrimmage, I think on both sides of ball, particular. And I'm a big fan. If you can, if you can run the ball and you can stop the run, you got a chance to win a lot of football games. |
2:19.0 | And that's been proven at every level. I think for me, I just, I really enjoyed the physicality of playing up front, playing on a defensive line, getting into the dirty work. |
2:27.0 | I was surrounded by a lot of good players, even starting back from my days at UVA. And then obviously my time in New England. So, play with some Hall of Famers, play with a lot of all pros. |
2:36.0 | So that, for me, that was a tremendous honor. And then I'm able to translate my knowledge of what I learned from parcels and billbell check. |
2:44.0 | And Al Groh, who's still one of my best friends to this day, he's been probably my number one mentor that I speak to constantly about just this football in general, particularly defensive line. |
2:54.0 | You know, there's a lot of terminology that I was able to pick up from playing for parcels and playing for bell check. And then if you watch Kirby, and if you go listen to Kirby's practices, and you kind of see the way he operates defensively, you'll see hints of Sabin because of his relationship with bell check. |
3:08.0 | And then it stems all the way back to the Godfather, if you will, bill parcels. So it's kind of like a little tree. And I just try to take a little bit from each coach and implement my own kind of my personality a little bit to it, just in terms of even from scheduling and how to run practice and how to play certain defenses and how to coach certain players on a defensive line. |
