In the spring of 2008, I was living in the San Fernando Valley part of Los Angeles, teaching high school English.

On a Monday morning of my commute to school, I saw a billboard that said, I hate Sarah Marshall, and had a website.

I was deeply grossed out by this billboard. It was in an inexpensive part of the valley, so I assumed that a guy had been dumped

and put up a revenge porn website and was advertising it. But once the week was over and I was

driving around L.A. outside of my commute route, I started to see that the billboard was everywhere.

I don't remember when it became clear to me that this was part of an advertising stunt for the 2008 movie that we are

covering today, forgetting Sarah Marshall. But I do know that it was only weeks later that I

found myself defending the fantastic comedic merits of the film.

I apparently had totally forgotten the initial impression it had made on me.

Now, 17 years after forgetting Sarah Marshall's release,

my reaction to it is actually best summed up between that deep revulsion and absolute adoration

of the film. The plot of forgetting Sarah Marshall revolves around Peter, played by one of the

writers of the movie Jason Siegel. Peter is a TV composer for a Law and Order type show

that features his girlfriend Sarah Marshall in the lead role.
