In this episode, James Mangold takes us behind the scenes of his new biographical drama, Ford versus Ferrari. The film follows American car designer Carol Shelby and driver Ken Miles, who battled corporate

interference, the laws of physics, and their own personal demons to build a revolutionary

race car for Ford and challenge Ferrari at the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1966.

In addition to Ford versus Ferrari, Mr. Mangold's directorial credits include the feature films

Logan, The Wolverine, 310 to Yuma, Walk the Line, Kate and Leopold, and Girl Interrupted,

and the pilots for the series, Vegas, and Men in Trees.

Following a recent screening of the film at the DGA Theater in New York,

Mr. Mangold spoke with director Doug Lyman about filming Ford versus Ferrari.

I'd love to take credit for this movie, but, uh, well, it's, it's, it's really a,

extraordinary accomplishment.

The, you know, how gripping the, the, the action is and how strong the emotion is.

In many ways, that was, I mean, the, I'm not a motorsports guy, you know, so my attraction to the

story when I first kind of encountered it and to the script was not like I got to make a race

car movie as much as the idea.
