So about 20 years ago, we adopted a child who has some special needs. And what a journey of learning for us,

because it's an out-of-the-box experience for seasoned parents. If a new parent has a special

needs child, it's overwhelming. What can you do to help out? That's where we're going to be

talking about today. I'm John Fuller, along with Dr. Danny Werta, who heads up our parenting team. Danny, just tick off some of the main challenges that people are going to be able about today. I'm John Fuller along with Dr. Danny Werta who heads up our parenting team.

Danny, just tick off some of the main challenges that parents have when their child has some special

needs. Yeah, and by special needs, and we're talking about autism all the way to severe physical

limitations that a child has had. And I remember being a school social worker

and getting to work with the kids with life skills, types of classes, where they're just,

we had to blend up the pizza for them and feed them through that or G-toot fed all the way to

kids who were trying to integrate into the school system and one being the

autism side.

And some of the things that I've learned from parents over the years is that one is grief,

another one is shame.

A big one, especially around autism, is this sense of shame around others.

And over 40% have said that they've actually not gone to family

functions or functions with friends just to prevent either lashback or embarrassment because of their

child's behaviors. And there is financial strain with this. There's depression, anxiety.
