Summary

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth convened an extraordinary meeting of hundreds of the nations Flag officers and essentially challenged them to pass the same Presidential Physical Fitness test that so many of us ancient relics had to attempt in elementary school. Word on the base is that the enlisted personnel seem to like the meeting better than they did.

Well, we're living through a time of number of series of remarkable experiments on how we govern ourselves, and one of the most interesting is, can we make our military more lethal, not by adding to it, but by taking away from it? Hi, everybody, I'm Bill Whittle here with Steve Green and Scott Ott, and this right angle is brought to you by our members at billwittle.com. Gentlemen, here's a picture for you. This is the Assembly of Generals that was called by Pete Hegesith, and they look like a bunch

0:24.9

of wet hands.

0:25.6

They look like a series of extremely distinguished men who just sat down in something wet.

0:31.3

They don't look happy at all.

0:33.7

And I suppose they've got plenty of reasons not to look happy.

0:38.3

Donald Trump's made some remarks, which I frankly think he shouldn't have made. I think Donald Trump should have simply not gone to that meeting, sat in the White House and said, I have a Secretary of Defense. He's consulted me about what he wants to do, and he's doing it. It's his show, and he knows what he's doing. But in any event, for those of you haven't been following, Pete Hagseth basically went through the ranks of virtually every flag officer in the

1:00.3

armed forces of the United States and kind of read them the riot act. He did it somewhat tactfully,

1:07.6

but enthusiastically. And among the many things that he talked about was the idea that officers of any rank

1:15.9

have to be able to pass the physical fitness requirements of the armed forces.

1:22.1

And if I remember his exact quote, it's like, guys, something to when, uh, something to the effect of when privates and

1:28.8

enlisted men see fat generals, it's just not a good look. And, and he's absolutely right.

1:34.9

Um, Scott, this, um, these generals did not look happy, uh, at all. And, and I can understand why.

1:40.9

They're virtually, well, every one of them was senior in rank to what Pete

1:44.5

Hanksuth was before he became Defense Secretary. Many of them have dedicated the second part of their

1:50.5

careers to life in the Pentagon and managing these enormous projects. And here comes this young

1:55.3

firebrand whippersnapper, you know, telling them they need to get into shape and so on. And because

2:00.3

I try to be

2:01.2

intellectually honest about things, I looked at the reaction of this roomful of generals that you just

2:08.5

saw. And I thought to myself, what if these guys are right? Okay. There's a tremendous amount

2:13.7

of military experience in there, an amazing amount. Pete Hagseth has been criticized for being

2:19.9

a kind of a loose cannon and wild drinker and all the rest of it. And I asked myself,

2:24.6

what if the look on these generals faces is correct? Is this guy, is he coming into, to destroy
