We all would like to think that we know where we are going and how to get there.

Today's Psalm, Psalm 136, is 26 verses long,

so it's fairly long, but I'm going to take the time to read it, and I'm going to read it slowly,

on purpose. I'm going to read it meditatively, and I want you to think with me through each verse.

I think you'll understand why in just a moment. Really, this particular Psalm does not need a lot of comment. Instead, it needs a lot of meditation. Because Psalm 136 has one

primary truth, one big idea. I think you'll get the picture in just a moment. And if you can get

that one truth fixed in your mind, it will be the thing that will help you

this day and every day. Psalm 136 is a historical Psalm. It is set in the period when the children

of Israel bring the ark into the temple and begin reflecting on all the goodness and blessing

individual lives. And this is what it says. Psalm 136. Oh, give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good,

for his mercy endureth forever. Oh, give thanks unto the God of God's, for his mercy endureth forever. O give thanks unto the God of gods, for His mercy endureth forever.
