Summary

President Trump has signed an executive order banning third parties from paying college athletes to attend a school.  NIL is still in play beginning next year but paying just to select a school is supposedly out the window or your school risks losing federal funding.  Stan's back to discuss IF this will work and where college football is headed with expanding conferences and a power play between the SEC and the Big Ten.

We continue our focus on football today at KKHI, getting the week off right.

We're just clearing out the heavy stuff for a bit and just locking in on our favorite sport,

or at least my favorite sport, and the season that is upon us.

There are big issues surrounding college football, and Stan Weber will rejoin us here in a

0:26.4

couple of moments to talk about that as Donald Trump has signed an executive order that didn't

0:31.2

get much attention or much play last week, basically saying it's illegal or it's going to be illegal if you want to receive

0:38.9

federal funds at your university for a third party, let's just take a business, a car

0:45.6

dealership or something, to pay a million dollars to a player to come to that school and play

0:50.2

football or basketball or whatever sport it may be. That will be by executive order against

the law. Now, is it absolutely against the law? Does the law need to be passed? Who knows? But what we found

all across the country is universities everywhere are doing what Donald Trump says because they know

he's going to pull funding if they don't. Dei is dying everywhere.

emails because they could get their school defunded by the federal government, it becomes a

1:22.5

game changer. And the same thing would be true with donors. The question is, how do you catch people doing this?

1:28.4

And what kind of enforcement is there? Because there really is no enforcement over this or couldn't be any

1:33.9

enforcement unless it were against the law. Again, the punishment for a third party paying a player

1:39.3

would be the school could get defunded, not the payer of the money going to jail because he committed a

1:44.9

crime. So there's a lot of work to be done here, but this is a great start. These are all things
