But for too long the accompaniment to that experience has been decidedly second rate.

This used to be the pinnacle of what film audiences could expect as an eating experience

at the cinema, the sound of crackling cellophane and tiny foil, something

that in terms of decibels could compete with the movie soundtrack.

But irritating as those rustlings and crunchings may be, they are nothing to what now goes on in the dark at your local fleepip.

A small number of pioneers are trying to break the dominance of popcorn and hot dogs and bring the excitement back to the marriage of food and film.
