your awareness of his very real presence in your life. Well, this point of the show is where I typically

set up the show with my own words, my own perspective, my own commentary. But instead I want to read

this excerpt from my guest today. He says, it's as if we in the United States have looked at God

as a means to all these other ends.

Instead of seeking and being satisfied in God as the end, I believe this is one of the primary reasons, if not the primary reason, the American Church is in its current state.

For far too long, an American gospel has fueled desires for all sorts of things other than the one thing,

or more appropriately put, the one we most need. I believe this means our greatest need,

moving forward over and above everything else, is simply to cry out an individual and

collective desperation for God and God alone as the prize of our lives. I could not set it better. I could not agree more.

Author and pastor Dr. David Platt joins me today to talk about his latest book. It is just

amazing. And it's titled, Don't Hold Back, Leaving Behind the American Gospel to Follow Jesus Fully.
