| 0:21.5 | We begin the hour by going out to the progressive guest line. Nick Whalen joins the program now with RotoWire, also co-host Prop Points, Monday through Friday at 1 o'clock Eastern right here on VCEN. Hey, Nick, good afternoon. Thanks for the time today. How are you? Doing well, guys. Doing well. I mean, no complaints about how the elite eight played out over the weekend. |
| 0:39.8 | We got ourselves a nice little NBA slate tonight. I'm ready to hit it. Pretty good slate overall. I know you have a prop tonight that you like on Wembe. Before we get into that, what do you make of the odds movement with the MVP? And now it's starting to drift a little bit back towards SGA.'s about a $4 favor but that came all the way down to like minus 210 over the weekend |
| 0:59.5 | yeah i think what less than a week ago he was minus 800 maybe even north of that at some books |
| 1:04.5 | so we we have seen some movement here you know it's coincided of course with we binaama |
| 1:07.9 | coming out and making his case for why he should be in the MVP |
| 1:11.4 | conversation, which, you know, I think it's generally frowned upon, right? I'm not really sure why. |
| 1:15.4 | You know, we typically see players deflect when they're asked about that, but I thought it was interesting when, you know, reporter said, hey, what are the bullet points? You know, if you were making in your case for why you're the MVP, |
| 1:23.9 | and he didn't blow it off. |
| 1:24.9 | You could tell. |
| 1:25.3 | He thought about it. |
| 1:26.1 | It almost was like he had these things ready to go, |
| 1:28.1 | and he kind of made his own case. |
| 1:29.8 | And I do think those are the type of headlines that could grab the attention of voters. You know, a lot of his case, of course, is rooted in the defensive impact. But something we've talked about a lot guys in this spot throughout the season is, you know, for so long, SGA had the advantage of being on the best team. And we just assumed OKC would be 10 games better than every other team in the West. And, you know, maybe that would be the tiebreaker between him and Yokic and Wehman Yama and Luca because the counting stats are ridiculous for all those guys. But the Spurs winning games, they just don't lose anymore, guys, that the rate at which they're winning, I think has to be considered. |
| 2:01.7 | I mean, OKC has been playing great over the last couple of months. And it's still just a two and a half game gap right now in the Western Conference. Both teams are on pace to win well over 60 games. So, you know, you do wonder, is there maybe a little bit of voter fatigue, even though SGA just won his first last year. you know, we do run into that in the NBA, as you guys know. |
| 2:19.1 | I mean, it feels like it's kind of been Wemeyama season more than it's been SGA's. And I think SGA missing the amount of time that he did is what is allowed Wemn Yama back into this race. I would be totally fine voting for Victor Wemeyama if I had a vote. I do think SGA ends up winning it. But I also think, guys, this is going to be one of those MVPs, especially if it does go to Shea, that we end up relitigating depending on how the playoffs go. Yeah, good point. And also this crazy move has happened in the last two weeks from 22 to 1 down to plus 220 because every night you mentioned the press conference, but he's filling up the box score, points, rebounds, and the blocks. And tonight against the Bulls, you want to look at his blocks and steals. Yeah, I mean, that's the thing with Wenamah is, you know, for one, he's putting up numbers every single night, much like SGA, but the Spurs are just handling business. Like you just have no concerns. You know, the spurs are never in like a close game with a team that they shouldn't be in a close game with. |
| 3:11.3 | They just go out and hammer these teams every single night. Kind of a unique spot against Chicago. We got a huge number. Everybody expects the Spurs to to continue rolling, which I do as well. But I'm looking at the over four and a half blocks plus steals, pretty reasonable price over at draft Kings. Chicago is the most block team in the NBA guys over the last 10 games. They're also top five in steals allowed. Women yama's gone over this number just in blocks in three of his last four games. I think part of it is, you know, he's making a concerted charge for the MVP, right? Even in a spot where the spurs know they could go out and, you know, give 80% effort and probably win this game easily, that's not really how Webbenyama is wired. And even though he's not playing big minutes every night, you know, that's what makes this even more impressive to me is he's putting up these numbers in under 30 minutes per game. Even if this does turn into a blowout, I mean, this is conceivably something he could go over in in the first half if we're being realistic you look back at the first matchup with chicago earlier |
| 4:01.4 | in the season five blocks and one steal in that game which was a blowout win for the spurs |
| 4:07.2 | pretty decent yeah uh so i'm looking at the injury report or like i'm looking at over at night |
| 4:11.9 | numbers and this morning thinking to myself, |
| 4:29.4 | why is Detroit catching up to 14 points against Oklahoma City? Bad spot for the Thunder. Pissons still playing for the one seed. Then you see the injury report. Hold on a second. You're like, everybody's out. But Paul Reed, Paul Reed's going to be playing here tonight. This is, I think, a good catch by you. What's the angle here with Paul Reed then? |
| 5:04.9 | Yeah, so Detroit sitting guys on the back-to-back, Tobias Harris, Duncan Robinson, Jalen Duren, all out. They will have a star Thompson. Then obviously, Isaiah Stewart and Kay Cunningham out for legitimate injury purposes. I like Paul Reed over 12 and a half points, guys. We talked about the side prop points earlier today. And I like it even more now that a couple pieces are out for okay c including isaiah hardinstein so he and jaylon will sit out on the second night of a back to back for the thunder i think it's easy to look at this game and think okay k cunningham detroit's resting other starters you know how are they get a score on this okayc defense they're going to score we see this every night in the NBA. Paul Reed is somebody that when the opportunity has been there, has always stepped up, dating back to his days, even with the Philadelphia 76ers. So he's going to be the guy at center. And an OKC is down, you know, one of its best big men in Isaiah Hardenstein. So over 12 and a half points on Paul Reed. I was sniffing around, |
