This morning I want to talk about controlling the controllables.

Focus only on what you can control and forget the rest.

Baseball pitcher Greg Maddox was never considered a potential prospect when he came up through

high school.

He received no scholarship offers to play in college.

He was only six feet tall and didn't have a 90 mile an hour fastball or other great

stuff like mini pitching prospects.

But he did however have intense focus on the things that mattered the most to performing

under pressure.

Maddox was asked after a game one day to assess his performance.

His assessment surprised people.

He didn't talk about whether he got the win or how the other team hit against him or

even the number of runs that they scored.

Instead, Maddox's answer was 73 out of 78.

Reporters and teammates didn't understand.

They were perplexed.

What Maddox meant was that in his simple assessment, 73 out of 78 balls that he pitched left

his fingers in the desired way, which was a good day by his estimation.
