Summary

It's no secret that the more popular trout rivers in the Rocky Mountains have gotten more crowded in the past few years. Yet there are so many species of fish that are fun with a fly rod, closer to home, and that live in places that are far less crowded. Davis James shares his experience with the "25 On the Fly" event, where anglers in the Front Range try to catch 25 different species of fish on the fly rod in two days (no one has ever done it). He share his tips for what species are available, how to find them, what tackle to use, and what fly patterns to try. We all need to embrace these wonderful fish to have fun closer to home and to take pressure off our more productive trout streams.

0:21.1	Davis is the community leader for Orvis in the front range of
0:25.1	Colorado and the topic today is alternative species in the Rocky Mountain West.
0:37.1	It's no secret that Colorado's,
0:39.6	particularly Colorado's trout streams,
0:41.6	but to a lesser extent, Montana's and Utah's trout streams, are getting
0:47.0	more and more crowded. And people are complaining about being able to find a place to fish.
0:53.0	And it's unfortunate because there are so many other species
1:00.0	in that part of the world to chase with a fly rod where you have virtually no competition
1:06.4	and uncrowded waters and fish that are a lot of fun with a fly rod.
1:11.7	There's a huge world out there beyond trout and if we're going to try to lessen the crowding on our more popular trout streams, we're going to need to pursue alternative species.
1:26.0	And Davis is going to tell us how to do it, how to find him, what flies to use, what rod to use, and I'm sure that if you live in this area
