Summary

Water is not only an indicator of God's presence, it's also an indicator that God is trying to change something, to help an individual or a group move from one place to another or from one kind of being to another. How do allow and embrace that influence? Show Notes: Connect with us on Instagram or Facebook Music: "Indie Vibes" by Roybushband

Welcome to the Scripture Study Project. We study together by investing our hearts into important questions,

0:12.0

discovering powerful truths from God and His Word, and connecting meaningfully with others as we learn and teach together. Hey everyone.

0:23.6

A few weeks ago, one of my sons posed to me what I thought was a pretty simple question,

0:30.6

but I have since learned is the source of a pretty serious debate.

0:34.6

His question was, Dad, would you say that water is wet? And I gave a pretty quick

0:43.0

response. And then he let me know of the debate that was going on between him and some of his

0:49.1

friends as they talked about this. And I've since learned that this isn't just a high school debate.

0:54.7

This is actually a scientific debate. Scientists don't actually agree on whether or not water is

1:01.8

wet. And I learned that not only is that kind of confusing, but water itself is kind of confusing.

1:07.8

There's a lot of things that are really unique about water, one of which water is the only substance on earth that exists in all three states within the natural

1:17.0

conditions on earth, a gas, a solid, and a liquid. And as I started learning about these, I came

1:25.7

across this poem that I think hints at something maybe more profoundly

1:32.7

significant about water, especially as we consider this second of the five symbols that

1:41.5

indicate God's presence. If you haven't listened to the first couple of episodes

1:45.0

of this season, you might go back and review them. The short of the long is that in the Old

1:50.8

Testament there are at least five different symbols that indicate God's presence. The one that

1:57.4

we studied the first couple of episodes was the Hebrew word ruach, which is translated

2:02.8

as spirit or breath or wind.

2:04.8

It's this force that God gives that shows up as wind or as some breath that indicates

2:13.1

when he's present or doing something.

2:15.1

Well, the second symbol we want to look at is water. And so as I was

2:18.2

looking at that, I read this poem. This is called Crossing the Bar. It's by Alfred Lord Tennyson.
