Summary

872: There was something about the unique design and explanation of the FlightPath Golf Tee on Instagram that caught my eye, and I thought what the heck I’ll give it a try. During the first round, I noticed that my drives were going much straighter than usual, but gave myself more credit than the tees. But round after round, I was hitting more fairways and my yardage also increased. It took almost a year to go through the box of 8 tees, but I was hooked and ordered another. Now almost two years in, it was time to order another box, but this time, I needed to find out more. Our guest this week is the inventor, Daniel Whalen, PhD, an environmental engineer who was challenged by his inventor father to come up with something the golf world had never witnessed before. A USGA compliant tee that reduces frictional resistance and allows you to hit straighter and farther than ever before. We originally wanted to look at developing a golf tee kind of along the lines where you start

0:06.4

to remove as much friction as possible.

0:08.7

So if you turn the golf tee and you look at it top down, any 360 degree orientation that

0:13.2

you're hitting in, you're typically seeing that same amount of friction in that direction.

0:17.9

And a lot of times when performance golf tees come onto the marketplace,

0:21.1

they try to reduce friction, but they try to reduce it in all directions, whether it's four-prong,

0:25.5

eight-prong, jagged edges, but it's still consistent in that orientation all the way around. And so

0:30.8

with Flight Path golf teas, we thought if the golver's never hitting in all the directions at once,

0:35.0

the golver's only hitting in one direction. So why not try to just maximize frictional reduction in the one direction the golfer is going

0:43.0

to hit at a time?

0:44.1

So we're taking advantage of the fact that the golfer gets to place the T in a direction,

0:48.8

and in that direction, which is the direction of the arrow on the T, we've removed as much friction

0:53.2

as possible to provide the maximum amount of performance that the T, we've removed as much friction as possible to provide

0:55.0

the maximum amount of performance that a T can offer a golfer.
