Now, can you start off by telling my listeners more about your background and how you came to

investigate this particular incident? Sure. Well, I got my degree under graduate degree in science

and biology. I became a magazine writer and I eventually got a pilot's license and got very

interested in flying small planes. Part of the thing that happens to you when you get a pilot's

license is you get very interested in plane crashes. You want to try to figure out how that won't

happen to you so you read all kind of accident reports and so forth. Eventually I started writing

articles about airplanes and got interested in airplane crashes. There was a big crash in 2009

called Air Force 447 where a plane disappeared over the South Atlantic and took two years

for investigators to find it and so I wrote a lot about that when Malaysian Airlines MH370 went

missing. I was asked to write about that for slate and then wrote some articles for slate and

CNN asked me to go on so I went up going on CNN for about four months talking about this plane

kind of nonstop as your listeners may recall CNN hit that story really hard and that's pretty

much all they talked about for about four months so I and a bunch of other people pretty

much everybody who wrote about planes was on there at one point or another and going on there and

talking about it kind of you know it was sort of a privileged position because I was sort of being

paid to think about this case pretty much nonstop and it allowed me to reach out to people and

everyone answers your phone call when you're saying you're calling from CNN. So I like to talk to
