that music was absolutely central to his life.

He was a rapper and not just an enthusiastic guy who would drop a few verses now and then.

He'd secretly recorded music while in prison, managed to smuggle the recordings out, and then

collaborated with a production company called Die Jim Crow Records, which was set up specifically to release music by prison impacted artists.

His first album is out now, and it's powerful. It's called innocent, born guilty.

Hip-hop is a big part of how Leon sees the world,

and we'd always wanted listeners to hear his music

and to hear Leon talking about his music.
