Confidence. We all want more of it, even though we consume loads of content on it. So does it have to be something so hard to achieve consistently? I don't think so. In this episode, I outline five simple building blocks you can use to be more confident overall. Notice I said they were simple, but not necessarily easy! They require practice and commitment. All right, men, welcome. I am Connor Beaton, and today we're going to talk about the five things that

0:05.7

you can do to be more confident. There's probably a ton of videos that you've seen on this or articles that

0:10.8

you've read online. And I think, unfortunately, what most of them miss as a foundational starting point

0:16.8

is just defining what confidence actually is. So confidence is the feeling or belief that one can

0:26.6

rely on someone or something. And the key word in there is rely. We're going to talk about that in

0:31.8

a second. So to have confidence in another person, you need to know that you can rely on that person for a number of different

0:40.2

things, right? Whether it's for them to show up on time, for them to be honest or truthful,

0:45.2

for them to have a sense of competency in what they're talking about or what they're doing.

0:51.3

So confidence within yourself is really about reliance. It's about

0:57.3

self-reliance and how you as a man can begin to develop the skills and the understanding that

1:03.8

you can rely on yourself to follow through with what you said you're going to do, to create something that matters,

1:13.0

to be able to push through challenging things, right?

1:17.2

All of these components play into developing a sense of self-reliance.

1:22.2

So rather than thinking about, oh, I want to develop more confidence, what I want you

1:26.9

to start to think about is how do I

1:29.1

develop a deeper sense of self-reliance? How do I create the structures, the activities, what decisions and

1:38.3

choices do I need to make to understand that I can rely on myself, to do the right thing, to say the right thing, to make

1:46.4

the right choice, to follow through with what I've said I'm going to do. So to have confidence

1:51.6

in yourself is to simply rely on yourself. So confidence essentially is about a sense of security,

1:58.0

a sense of trust, hence the opposite of insecurity, right? So if you have

2:03.4

insecurity over here and confidence over here, what we're actually talking about is insecurity,

2:08.5

you feel insecure in the sense that you don't know if you can make the right choice, make the right
