Welcome to the beat. I'm Ari Melber and the prosecution of Donald Trump is actually

making tremendous progress today. I have things I can tell you right now that we couldn't

have told you hours ago, let alone last night when we first began day one's coverage.

Now it's clear as we report in the new developments in what is the first ever criminal

trial of the next president.

And first and foremost we talk about the mood, this defendant clearly doesn't want to be there.

That was clear from the start,

as headlines about that first day yesterday

focused on how they hadn't found jurors

and there were projections that picking this jury could take two weeks.

Now on day one you may recall clashes over scheduling evidence in the gag order

and they did do vetting of jurors over several hours but as you see in red it didn't result

in a single juror being picked yesterday zero jurors selected that's what we

knew at the end of day one and it did look based on that like some kind of long haul.

And we're also hearing today for the first time from prospective jurors who didn't make

the cut, which is super interesting because that's the only people yet that we've heard from inside that courtroom with the judge and the prosecutors and the defendant himself.

So I'm going to show you that in a moment. But first, the news tonight is a breakthrough where the court is actually now selected and sworn in jurors today.

Zero yesterday and today not just one or two or three, but seven jurors have now been selected.

One more being added here at the very end of the day.

Seven total, which makes yesterday look downright sleepy.

These seven jurors now constitute about a third of the total jurors needed, and the jury is

composed of 12 total and six alternates.
