Summary

For months now, U.S. women's national team head coach Emma Hayes has stated that she wanted to identify her core group for the 2027 World Cup cycle by the October 2025 international window. Well, here we are.

On this week's Full Time podcast, hosts Tamerra Griffin and Meg Linehan get out their crystal balls and debate their first drafts of what they believe will be Hayes's USWNT roster in two summers time at the 2027 World Cup in Brazil. Who will Tamerra and Meg select? Who will they leave off the roster? Where will the two differ in their picks? Which absent stars will be predicted to return? How big is Hayes's roster bubble right now?

PLUS: Melanie Anzidei and Asli Pelit join the show fresh from U.S. soccer, alongside the Mexican, Costa Rican and Jamaican soccer federations, presenting their 2031 Women's World Cup bid to the media. The duo get into what they learned from speaking with the federations this week, as well as legends Kelley O'Hara and Abby Wambach. How many teams will compete? Why did these four nations join forces as hosts? What exciting prospects and challenges lie ahead?

But I totally agree Naomi, if healthy. And honestly, even if she's kind of like half healthy, you need her on the squad. Like both for leadership qualities. I know you talked about that in the introduction to this show. That, I mean, age does not matter for Naomi Germa, right? Like, Naomi Germa is Naomi Germa one of one.

Yes.

0:23.8

And it actually would be kind of interesting to have like a separate type of roster

0:27.6

prediction from like a leadership perspective, maybe like side episode idea.

0:35.6

Hi, welcome back to full-time.

0:41.8

I am Tamara Griffin.

0:43.0

And as much as your girl loves to live in the moment, this week on full-time, we are going to take a leap, not even a jump, not a couple steps, a leap into the future.

0:55.8

We're talking about the 2027 World Cup and specifically who we think is going to be on that roster. Now, it might feel

1:02.3

very, very early, but one, it's an international break. So, of course, we're going to be thinking

1:06.2

about the U.S. Women's National Team. And two, there is a lot of questions that are remaining about where

1:13.5

people are in the depth chart, who is going to be sort of the core of Emma Hayes' squad heading

1:18.5

into this tournament in Brazil. And, you know, it's never too soon to start talking about where

1:23.3

we're at with that. So, of course, I'm going to be joined by my co-host, Meg. We're going to be

1:27.3

comparing lists, having a little bit of debate club, as our producer Theo Lloyd Hughes called it. And we're going to be getting into it. Also, of course, with a look ahead to the actual games that the U.S. Women's National Team is going to be playing in this window. Before we get into that, though. Meg, how are you doing? And again, I have to say it on air, standing on business,

1:46.7

great sweater. Thank you. we get into that, though, Meg, how are you doing? And again, I have to say it on air, standing on

1:46.1

business, great sweater. Thank you. Thank you. This is my, my Halloween sweater. I need to stop

1:53.6

buying sweaters. I live in Vermont now. So you know what? Does the limit exist? I don't think it does.

1:59.0

Civic responsibility is what it sounds like to me. It is what it is. Tamara, I think, like, we got to get you to the Northeast. We got to have, like, a fall foliage moment. You know, I do think, like, it's going to be a chilly championship. So I think we got to figure out, like, our sweater game. It will. And in the Bay Area, layers are key. There is an art to layering. I will have a whole set of, like, guidelines for people who are traveling to the championship because I want everyone to have the best experience ever. But yeah, layers, I mean, I'm in a tank top right now. It's probably going to be in the high 70s here in California. But I did switch over to a maple-flavored almond milk to add to my coffee.

2:35.9

So I'm easing into the fall vibes, but in a California way. All right, let's talk about the

2:42.4

U.S. Women's National Team. Let's talk about the 2027 World Cup. I feel like some people are like,

2:47.3

why are they talking about this so early? But there is reason for this. I mean, the whole summer, basically, U.S. Women's National Team head coach Emma Hayes has been talking about this core group that she wants to identify by the end of the year. And while, I mean, I would love for her to actually name names with that, realistically, we know that's not going to happen. So we need to fill in the gaps a little bit, right, and move this conversation forward, don't you think?

3:10.3

Yeah.
