You were with NPR for many years, and you are now coming to us from Ukraine.

So before we get into it, I'd love if you could just tell our listeners how you came to be there,

the kind of journalism you're attempting to do and are doing brilliantly from Ukraine. Tell us this story.

So I landed in Ukraine for the very first time on the evening of February 23rd, 2022,

and that's the night the invasion began.
