The first Independence Day fireworks display took place in Philadelphia in 1777.

Since then, they have become a symbol of American independence.

Ironically, the fireworks which we've long loved and used to celebrate our nation are

actually destroying its atmosphere.

For risking the health of all of us Americans everywhere, fireworks offer no true benefit

to our society other than momentary pleasure.

It's been so ingrained in our brains that fireworks demonstrate patriotism, but their absence

really wouldn't change our lives at all.

Let's be good patriots and be aware of the detriment of fireworks.

but they are.
