Hey everybody, welcome to tonight's Firelight Chat.

We have a very important guest, someone who is a friend as well as a colleague.

I first met maybe a girl when we did the candidate summit where I was supporting progressive

candidates for Congress.

She has run twice before in California's Congressional District 30 for a seat in the House

of Representatives.

She has run against Adam Schiff.

Now, Adam Schiff will not be running this time.

She is planning to run for the Senate, and maybe who came in second last time, it's

so important that she win this time.

However, there's something additional about maybe that makes her the reason that I asked

her to be our guest tonight, and that is that she is transgender herself.

She's the first drag queen ever elected to public office in the United States, serving

in the Silver Lake neighborhood council in Los Angeles since 2019.

Now, as I said, she's running for the House.

She came in second place, as I said last time, in 2022, and if elected, when elected, she

will be the first trans person federally elected to the U.S. government.

This is not only delightful, I think you agree with me.

It's also very important, so I look forward to this conversation.
