In fact, there are fewer and fewer fires on our planet, and that just might be the problem.

Our relationship with fire, which stretches back, well, who knows how long, has been kind of

screwed up lately.

For the vast majority of human history, we've actually... has been kind of

kind of fine with fire.

We used fire to actually control nature in a way.

We would burn living vegetation in order to make way for growing food and to make certain that we would not have runaway conflagrations that could be a threat to our safety.

But of late, say the last few centuries, the past few centuries, that is, we have done everything

we can to make certain that there are fewer and fewer fires because fire is a very frightening thing

to us. But that's a weird part. Fire didn't use to be so scary,

to humans. Farry was just another part of the natural world, like water. However, while we
