9-11 was one of those huge wrenching events for me for everybody.

I had all kinds of personal collections of people who died and the whole thing was just devastating.

And having grown up in the United Kingdom during the troubles in Northern Ireland with multiple

bomb attacks and horrible terrorist attacks in the UK at least I had some sort of sense

of what might happen next.

And I wanted to be involved in some way, you know, kind of apply my skills, try to serve

the country.

Now obviously, it's too old to be joining the military and you know, as a Russia expert,

I've got no look for somewhere the first opportunity that I can to apply these skills and you

know, what can I do here?

But it was that kind of feeling the United States had given me so much that it's by this

point it transformed, you know, my whole life had been transformed and I was in 100%.

And when I gave that oath of citizenship, I really felt a massive sense of responsibility

because I'd studied, you know, for the civics part, I even had to take an English language

test.

And, you know, I'd really fully process that I was taking an oath to the country, an oath

to do something, you know, to protect the country as well.
