Summary

We're back! And we're headed into the classroom. Kids across Europe have very different experiences of school depending on where they live and how rich their parents are. One country that's been praised for getting public education right is Finland. This week we speak to education professor Pasi Sahlberg about what the world can learn from the Finnish way. We're also talking about Orbán's victory, bridging Europe's North-South divide, and a particularly special edition of El Clásico. Pasi is Professor of Education at Southern Cross University. You can read more about his work here and follow him on Twitter here. You can read the joint Spain-Netherlands paper here and find Politico's reporting on it here. Katie, you've been cheating on me.

0:25.5

I beg your pardon.

0:27.2

Well, this week I turned on the radio,

0:28.7

and who did I hear chatting about French politics

0:31.6

with BBC Radio presenter Evan Davies?

0:34.0

But you!

0:35.0

Yeah, sorry.

0:35.8

Are you leaving me?

0:36.6

We're best friends now. Have you found another man?

0:39.2

Radio 4 is like scary huge numbers of people, which I didn't really think about until after I did it.

0:45.2

And that's probably for the best. How many people were listening?

0:47.9

Approximately 60 gazillion million. Yeah, do know. Loads though. But it was fun to be on the radio.

0:53.8

And in all seriousness, you spoke

0:55.7

really well. So I was very proud. And yeah, I'm giving you a free pass to go and talk to anyone

1:03.4

you want, especially at this time of French elections. It must be a busy time for you, Katie.

1:08.7

Yeah, gearing up for the election next weekend, doing some reporting around that.

1:11.6

More on which next week, but yeah, it's looking less predictable and more scary than it was a few weeks back.

1:20.6

But on the positive side, this is my first French election as a citizen here, so I finally get to vote.

1:26.6

And it's going to sound really nerdy, but I'm

1:28.8

quite excited about voting because the voting system is so different from the UK. And I've never

1:34.7

had a direct vote for a president before, and it's exciting. So I think I'm pretty much the only

1:39.4

French person who's actually excited and looking forward to Sunday. This has been a quite depressing campaign.
