But Finland has just become NATO's newest member with its flag joining 30 others outside

the Alliance headquarters in Brussels.

Finland's Foreign Minister has handed over the formal accession papers to the US Secretary

of State Anthony Blinken, the keeper of the Western Alliance's founding treaty.

Mr Blinken said it was ironic that it was Russia's all-out invasion of Ukraine last

year that prompted Finland to abandon decades of neutrality.

I'm tempted to say this is maybe the one thing we can thank Mr Putin for.

Because he, once again, here is precipitated something he claims to want to prevent.
