Summary

In a continuation from last week where K & S discuss the first part of "The Defining Decade"  by Meg Jay, this week dives into the second half of the book, where things get a liiiittle more heated. This half focuses on relationships, marriage, & fertility in your 20s and beyond, which can be a delicate subject when things such as privilege, gender stereotypes and financial stability come into play.  The author shares that the best time to work on your marriage is "before you have one" and encourages twentysomethings to not delay starting a family.  The hosts of Fingers Crossed definitely have a lot to say about this part of the book—and their listeners definitely have some critiques to share as well.  Come join in and let us know what you think! Good morning, everyone. Welcome to your favorite podcast. We are on air, live in studio. We are your

0:15.6

host. My name is Christy and I am Sierra. Welcome back. Welcome to Fingers Cross. We are back for

0:20.4

another Tuesday. We have an

0:21.7

exciting episode in store because if you listen to the last one, this is actually a continuation

0:26.6

of our discussion of the defining decade, a book all about making you feel bad, but also

0:32.6

motivated, but also confused about being in your 20s. That's how I would describe it. It's a whole bunch of feelings that you will experience reading this book. And when we first started recording, we did not intend for it to be a two-part episode. How we thought we were going to fit an entire book into an hour discussion. Like, I don't know.

0:52.5

A book with so many different topics too like not just one

0:55.2

concept so last week's episode if you listened is pretty much the whole first part of the book

0:59.9

focusing on your career your work goals um things like identity capital as well as weak ties

1:07.0

and um yes your friendship stuff and then today we are going to be diving into everything

1:14.2

about love and relationships. The book talks about finding your partner. And then the last

1:19.3

part of the book, which is all about how your body changes in your 20s and going into talking

1:23.5

about not only like your brain development, but also fertility. We've got a lot of

1:28.5

critiques for this episode, some good things, but a lot of analysis. So I think it'll be

1:34.9

really interesting, a little bit of tea-sipping, a little bit of chatting. And we have lots of

1:41.1

guest write-ins and some voice memos as well. So it's going to be a great one.

1:46.2

So but- I can't wait for you to hear it. But also I was just thinking about when you were saying

1:49.6

that how one thing we didn't even talk about in when we were discussing it that you'll hear

1:54.8

in like 20 minutes or whatever is just like the way that it was just pretty much the fertility part, like talking about your body,

2:02.6

they didn't talk about men at all. It was literally just kind of like a shaming women for waiting to have

2:08.4

kids. You know what I mean? Not shaming, but you know, she was trying to like open that discussion.

2:12.6

But they didn't like address the fact that like men were also reading this but it was just directed it you know what I mean
