The series we're exploring this week takes you through the Axial Age when great thinkers

such as Buddha, Confucius, Lao Tzu, Plato, Aristotle, and Confucius, and the Hebrew prophets and many other great thinkers lived

from the 8th to the 3rd century BCE.

This is an era referred to as the axial age.

This is a time on earth when great thinkers emerged to make sense out of the world.

During this time, transformative, intellectual, philosophical, and religious systems emerged across various

civilizations, and this profoundly shaped all subsequent human thought and culture. During this time, cultures were rising and falling,

and formerly more tribal or communal societies emerged with a new concept of individual self-awareness and the emphasis on personal responsibility for

one's actions.

Formally, that was not part of the thought process during those times.

When those ancient tribal communal civilizations were conquered,

new cities and territories emerged with the borders integrating different tribal communities together.

So the society at that time was forced, for survival's sake, to adapt to other thoughts, philosophies, religions, and spirituality.

And so these great thinkers emerged to make sense out of this new way of living.

And this is a time when people were questioning and seeking truth.

Previous traditions and culture wasn't working so well in this new integrated society.

And this meant that they began to question former beliefs.
