Hello and welcome to another episode of the Fully Charged Plus Podcast. Now we get, I think,

0:21.0

fascinating people on this series. I'm really amazed at the people we can get on here

0:28.1

and there are occasional episodes where I learn a great deal about a topic that I sort of think

0:35.0

I know about but then I realise I don't because when we're talking to people who are really embedded

0:39.0

in those areas, it's fascinating. So just a very brief bit of background which I think I do

0:43.6

explain very briefly on this episode. I did quite a lot of filming for British TV

0:50.5

camping ITV and now I work it out. I think it's 2015 about Formula E, the Formula E racing

0:59.6

racing thing. But before it started, so I was doing stuff about the motors and the batteries and

1:05.7

the technology behind it. And it was very early days then and what we're going to learn today is

1:12.1

how far and how fast that has developed and how internationally popular it is. And I think it's

1:19.3

kind of gone under the radar a bit in the UK. It's very big in other parts of the world because

1:25.2

there was a period of time when they didn't have any races in the UK and it's not on terrestrial

1:30.8

television. You have to be a kind of enthusiast. If you're not actually live at the actual race,

1:37.0

then you've got to kind of know where to find the footage. You can follow them online easily.

1:41.4

But from this year, Channel 4 in the UK and then many terrestrial broadcasters around the world

1:47.5

are broadcasting the Formula E races. And I think that's going to make a really big difference.

1:52.0

It's going to lift the kind of general public awareness because what you will learn in this

1:56.8

episode is how, you know, and this is what I've tried to focus on, is the connection between

2:03.6

motor racing, which is, you know, an expensive sport. It has a direct relevance to the cars that we

2:12.4

drive on the road. And that's, you know, lots of people in the kind of motor industry and

2:17.2

motor racing know that. And that's not new to Formula E. It's Formula One, all that sort of

2:23.8

motor racing. A lot of the technology that is completely normal now, anti-lock brakes, disc brakes,

...
