Sam, what made you decide to write about Darko Militich in the first place?

When you do features about lots of different kinds of subjects, you get these ideas from all different types of places.

This one actually came from an email that a friend of mine sent to me with a link to a thread on NBA Reddit.

And that thread had translated a Serbian article about Darko.

And in that article, it mentioned that since he'd left the NBA, he'd been dabbling in kickboxing

and had also become a farmer.

And I distinctly remember reading that

and immediately sort of imagining this giant basketball player

in like overalls and a hat,

like old McDonald or something.

And it seemed like the only way to find out was to go to Serbia.

When an 18-year-old from Serbia named Darko Milichichich was selected second overall in the 2003 NBA

draft, he came into the league as a mystery.

A decade later, he walked away with reputation as one of the most disappointing picks in the history of basketball.

So whatever happened to him?
