We’re all still in some sort of lockdown due to the coronavirus.
When we love someone suffering from addiction, we have our coping strategies. We all have things we do to help us through those particularly rough situations.
We teach those tools and tips in the programs, but here’s the thing: you may not be able to use your normal coping strategies right now.
Right? We can’t necessarily pick up our keys and escape to the grocery store, or out shopping, or to a coffee shop. All that’s changed now.
So today I share a different strategy. Something you can do at home and a practice you can choose to help cope.
Is it hard? Yes. It is. That’s just the loving truth. But does it work? Yes. It does. Also a loving truth :)

1:26.0 | One of our tools that we talk about a lot in the program is when they start drinking or using drugs you get your keys in your purse and you get in the |
1:36.8 | car and you leave. You go for a walk, you remove yourself from the situation. |
1:41.6 | Well for a lot of us that is not possible during this |
1:44.9 | virus situation and so we're stuck in quarantine and the person we love is drinking or using drugs right in front of our faces and that can be incredibly triggering, can't it? |
2:01.0 | So how do we get through this period that has no end date with sanity and while still loving somebody with addiction, |
2:18.4 | how do we get through this without losing our minds? |
2:22.2 | And one of the ways that we can do this is through compassion. |
