I'm scheduled to be on a roundtable from 1215 to 1255 and then giving my lecture from

1 to 140 and that's Eastern Standard Time.

The roundtable will be on Medieval History with fellow Medieval History podcasters.

The theme of the conference is hidden voices.

So we'll be talking about the parts of Medieval History which are hidden from modern eyes

or are misrepresented by pop culture.

I've been musing on Game of Thrones's portrayal of religion over the past week and I have some

thoughts. Then my lecture will be on the hidden voices of Byzantium.

We're very lucky to have so many sources about Byzantium relatively speaking but they tend to

come from the elite and the authorities. So what about those outside of that bracket?

What about ordinary people and those who consider themselves or were considered outsiders?

I'll talk about the various ways that modern scholars attempt to give voice to those people

and increase our understanding of daily life in Byzantium and this will include a brief discussion
