Last week I did an overview of a software application called Da Vinci Resolve, which is a wonderful free editor for video.

0:06.0

It includes not only an editor, but also the ability to do color grading.

0:09.4

And if you want to watch that

0:13.2

over view I will link that in the show description.

Since I did that the most common question I've been asked many times is can I do a

0:17.3

video on how to round trip projects from another editor into DaVinche

0:21.6

Resolve. So for instance if you want to use Final Cut

0:24.2

or Adobe Premier to do your editing

0:26.2

because you know that application,

0:27.5

and then you want to send your whole project

0:29.2

over to DaVincie Resolve

0:30.3

just to do the color grading

0:31.6

and then send it back into your editor after you're done, you can do that.

0:35.0

I'm going to show you how to do that today, but it is important to understand what it will and will not do because it's not quite perfect, but it does work.

0:42.0

Now, what it won't do is export any plugins. What it's going to do is

0:45.6

export an XML file and that XML file is a set of instructions that tells DaVincia

0:50.1

resolve how to put your edit back together and it will do that but it will not

0:53.2

bring information in with plugins so for instance on my videos I use a compressor and an

0:58.1

EQ on the audio track now if I put those in before I send it to Da Vinci Resolve

1:02.0

when I get it back from DaVincia Resolve they those in

1:03.3

the Da Vinci Resolve, they won't be there, the plugins that I applied,

1:07.0

so I've got to reapply them at that point.
