Summary

The most dangerous thing about self-deception is that when we are operating in it, we do not even know that we are being deceived. Failing to be true to what we believe is right causes us to rationalize and make excuses. Being true to our sense of what the right thing is relieves us from having to explain our actions; if we are false to our belief, then our excuses make the wrong thing that we are doing appear right. Deceiving ourselves causes a disturbance in us that we cannot reconcile because deep down inside, we know exactly what we should do. Fooling ourselves in this manner results in spiritual blindness us to the truth. This type of thinking is something we must beware of because it is built into the world’s norms and values. The best way to avoid this trap is to follow through and live the Word of grace after hearing it; this powerfully internalizes the truth as it is now.

0:23.6	last week we started a new series dealing with self-deception if there's one thing that is abundant in the world today
0:33.6	is this issue of self-deception because the problem with self-deception is you don't know you deceived.
0:42.0	And so I thought it's really time to really dig into this thing.
0:47.8	And last week we talked about defining self-deception, so we'll know what it's all about.
0:53.3	But this morning I want to start teaching on the origin of self-deception so we'll know what it's all about but this morning I want to start
0:55.2	teaching on the origin of self-deception not only the origin of self-deception
1:01.0	but what are some of the areas that self-deception comes from and I'm telling
1:08.2	you Taff and I had a great talk yesterday and and one of the things we realized is that a lot of self-deception was coming from the pulpits of America, coming from the pulpits of the world.
1:19.7	And, you know, there's some deception that comes from social media. It comes from everywhere. Everybody in here, including myself, we've all been in situations where we were deceived and the prayer
1:31.8	is lord help me not to be deceived or at least lord help me to see when i am being deceived you don't realize
1:40.7	the progress you make when you realize, whoa, I'm deceived.
1:46.0	But what happens when people don't realize the importance of getting free from self-deception?
1:55.0	I mean, it's a playground for the enemy.
1:58.0	And it just plays with you and with confidence you carry your life on in self-deception
2:03.4	and can't nobody tell you none because you know just what deception means is you think you're right
2:08.5	but you're wrong but you think you're right and you can't see that self-deception then you get older
2:14.7	and then you get old and now you're the new old people and and you didn't realize you spent 30 years of your life and self-deception.
