podcast. My guest today is Andrew Salgado. Andrew paints large colorful

portraits and abstract figurative work. He's originally from

Canada but after attending graduate school at Chelsea he's made London his home.

In this interview Andrew and I talk about living in a different country and how

immersing yourself in an artistic culture that is so different from your own

presents challenges and opportunities for growth.

In fact, it's those opportunities that are central to this discussion.

Andrew finds opportunities for growth all around him,

from fears we have as artist about our work, to competitive rivalries.

And how those issues affect our art is entirely dependent on our own mindset.

I really like what Andrew says in this interview about that which is

what happens in the studio is just a micro-cosmic example of what happens in life.

Can you tell me a little bit about when you decided to dedicate your life to art and really started taking it seriously?

Yeah, sure.

I think, you know, art was always a real formative part of who I am as a human being.

And I think it was kind of when I went to university I had a bit of a fight with my parents I was
