Joining me on the line is Abe Hamaday. He's a candidate for Arizona's eighth congressional district, a decorated intelligence officer in the U.S. Army Reserve and former prosecutor as well. Abe, thanks so much for joining the show.

Thank you for having me on bet.

0:10.8

So why don't we start by talking about the situation on the border?

0:13.2

Obviously, Greg Abbott in Texas is now taking measures to try to secure the border for his own state.

0:18.0

Arizona is a state that everybody seems to be ignoring when it comes to the openness of the Arizona border.

0:22.4

I recently visited down there.

May he can give us a status update on what's going on in Arizona because there are large swathes the border down there that are just completely unprotected and undefended. Well, that's exactly right, Ben. And unfortunately, we have a Democratic governor here in Arizona so they're not taking this seriously. When you're looking at what Abbott's doing, I think it's a desperate measure, and it's because the federal government has refused to do its job.

0:37.7

So what do they want us to do? What do they want the states to do? Instead, you had the Supreme Court, and I think it was a really bad decision, especially with Roberts and Comey Barrett, joining

0:45.7

out of the liberal justices to try to hamstring what Abbott is doing, which is just trying

0:54.8

to protect his citizens. But it's good to see Ron DeSantis and Oklahoma's governor, South Dakota's

0:59.3

governor, join in with Texas. So I think you're going to start to see a lot more pushback with

1:04.3

the states actually testing the know, testing the bounds

1:09.0

of the Constitution. Some of these measures have never been tested before. Arizona has a long

1:12.0

storied history with trying to enforce immigration laws, if you remember, about 14 years ago with SB 1070.

1:16.9

So we have to start looking at what the federal, if the federal government refuses to act, what are the state's options? But here in Arizona, you know, we have so many people coming across 300,000 people cross our southern border every single month, Ben. And since Biden took office, it's been 10 million people. That's inheriting a new state. Arizona's population, 7 million people. So imagining in three years,

1:23.4

we just inherited a new state. It's unsustainable. But as an intelligence officer, I'm really

1:44.8

concerned from the national security perspective because in my congressional district, we have the

1:49.0

microchip manufacturer that we just moved from Taiwan, the semiconductor chip manufacturer.

1:53.8

So as you imagine, there's been a lot of Chinese nationals

1:58.9

coming across our southern border, a lot of Chinese spies. We had the Chinese spy balloon that wasn't

2:01.5

shot down. And you have so many radical Islamists who are on the terror watch list, 179 that we

2:06.3

know of in the last year. So imagine the ones who are coming undetected. So this is a recipe for
