Today, I'm joined by Megan O'Rourke. She is a Democrat running in New Jersey's

7th Congressional District. She went to BYU, where she met her husband, also a native of New Jersey.

She went through school and earned degrees at Stony Brook University, Iowa State, and Cornell

along the way, getting a PhD. She also started a small farm business with her husband and raised

three kids. With her PhD in hand, Megan has had a successful career. She was a civil servant

working to improve food security and combat climate change at the U.S. Department of Agriculture

and the U.S. Agency for International Development, USAID, which some of you have probably heard about.

As a tenured professor, she studied how to make agriculture more sustainable to lower

costs for families and protect our environment for future generations. For five years, she led

climate change science at USDA's National Institute for Food and Agriculture overseeing a $200 million budget.

She also served as a Brookings Fellow and Senior Advisor in Congress learning how things get done
