In a few minutes, we'll introduce today's special guests.

First, we'll talk with Wisconsin State Representative

Theresa Bersault, and then Eugenie Scott, director of the National Center for Science Education

based in California. They'll join us to talk about how to fight back against creationism

and the pseudoscience movement. I'm Annie Laurie Gaylor. And I'm Dan Barker. Annie Laurie and I are co-presidents

of the Freedom from Religion Foundation, which sponsors and produces this program. And the foundation is the

largest, most active national association of freethinkers, which are atheists and agnostics in North America. We work really hard to keep

church and state separate. Before we introduce the topic of the fundamentalist war against the

teaching of evolution, I want to take a minute to talk about the assault against the First

Amendment generally

as represented by President Bush's so-called faith-based initiative.

Our government used to be based on fact-based initiatives.

This reminds me of a quote that Ben Franklin once said or wrote.

He said, when a religion is good, I conceive that it will support itself.
