It's been three months since we started this podcast. In pandemic time, it feels like three years.

When we started, the coronavirus was still raging across Europe, and New York City was the epicenter in the United States.

Today, most European countries have begun to slow, but steady, returned to normalcy,

while New York has made extraordinary progress.

But across the United States, the picture continues to be troubling.

New hotspots have emerged in Arizona, Florida, Texas, and California.

Our death toll has passed 130,000, and in a dark twist, last week, the EU banned American travelers,

by opening their borders to many other countries around the world.

I think the question on everybody's mind this week is, how did we get here?

To make sense of this new stage of the pandemic in the US, we're talking to National Geographic Science Editor, Seacon Akpan,

whose latest piece is titled, Here's How to Stop the Coronavirus from Winning.

It's still doable, but Seacon argues we're going to have to change our messaging about the virus, and our mindset.
