Summary

Emma Pallant is a British pro-triathlete who first made her mark as a track athlete, winning British Universities Championships and European Cross Country Championships (to name a couple.)  She took up triathlon in 2012 and started winning both triathlons and duathlons, becoming the World Duathlon champ in 2015. With her focus shifted strictly to triathlon, Emma had a strong year in 2017, picking up 2nd place in the 70.3 World Championship, and in 2018 winning in Mallorca, Barcelona and Staffordshire.

On this episode of the Triathlon Taren podcast, we talk to Emma about why she sees herself as an underdog, why she's always chasing from behind after the swim, and her hopes for Kona!

What's up Trainiacs? Today's podcast is brought to you by two sponsors. The first one is our pals at New Wave Swim Boy.

And I want to tell you a little bit of a story. As I've mentioned before, I was a little bit skeptical of New Wave Swim Boy when they first came to us and said they wanted to sponsor the podcast because I was a fairly confident open water swimmer.

But I tried it out. And what I found is that instantly boats were a long way away.

So last week I went out and I went to the spot that I normally swim very safe typically,

So I went down the river a fair bit, but I didn't know how far the dragon

boats were coming down the river. Fortunately, NTK, I had my new wave swim buoy. So I swam just

0:47.1

completely confidently, wasn't really sighting, looking around. And I had that confidence because of the new wave swim boy and all the times

0:56.3

that I had gone out before where people said, you know, we could see as far as about a mile away.

1:00.4

Which is good because those dragon boats come zipping by and they can't really stop.

1:05.5

Oh, they're chugging.

1:06.7

Oh, yeah.

1:07.3

They're chugging.

1:08.2

So I've been a big fan of New Wave Swim Boy, even though I'm a confident swimmer.

1:13.4

I know it's a huge, huge help to people who aren't confident in open water.

1:16.8

Apparently some clubs in Europe have told me that you are an idiot and not allowed in the club if you don't show up with your own New Wave swim boy.

1:26.8

And the folks at New Wave have told me

1:29.0

that there are clubs that order dozens and dozens of these things. It's like, I don't know,

1:33.6

it's like a pole boy, basically. Like they are so common there that, yeah, it's a legit thing.

1:39.9

Well, and it's cool to that aspect of being able to actually, it's a dry bag or a wet bag, dry bag.

1:45.6

Dry bag.

1:45.9

A dry bag.
