Summary

The latest episode of The Race F1 Podcast discusses the fortunes of two teams with huge championship pedigree who have been starved of title success in recent times: Ferrari and Williams.

Ferrari unveiled the SF-26 on Friday, before Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc gave the new car a brief shakedown at the Italian team's Fiorano test track. Edd Straw is joined by Scott Mitchell-Malm to discuss the new machine, its initial running, and what the team had to say after its launch.

After that, Edd and Scott turn their attention to Williams, who announced on Friday that it would be missing the upcoming 5-day private test in Barcelona due to delays getting its 2026 car ready. So what's happened, and how big a blow will it be for the team?

The race is on and the car that all of Italy is pinning its hopes on, and Charlotte Clerk and

Lewis Hamilton for that matter, was revealed at Fiorano today.

But is this the car to bring

0:21.1

the glory days back to Maranello, or another disappointment in waiting? And what's going on with

0:25.3

old rival Williams, which admitted it won't run in the Barcelona test as originally planned?

I'm Ed Strawn with me to tackle the latest from F1 launch season, is Scott Mitchell Mowell.

0:35.9

Well, Scott, you have me at a huge disadvantage on this podcast,

0:40.9

even more so than normal, because we're talking about Ferrari. And I have barely seen or heard

0:47.2

anything from the Ferrari launch, because I'm in Barcelona where we've been doing Alpine stuff

0:51.0

all day. We'll talk about that on another podcast. So you're going to have to

0:55.6

guide me through the new Ferrari. So how was the launch? How did they do it? Was it nice and revealing or

1:03.4

was it a little bit reticent? Thanks, Ed. My time to shine, I suppose. Yes, the Ferrari launch,

1:09.9

one of many stories on a ridiculously busy, newsy day,

1:14.2

you'd be forgiven for thinking that the F1 season started proper.

1:18.3

Kicked off pretty much by the Ferrari launch, some other stuff going on as well around the same time.

1:25.1

What I really liked about it first and foremost is just straight down to business with it.

1:30.3

So they did the reveal video, which bang on the time it was scheduled to drop, was basically like a 90 second pre-prepared reveal video, which showed off the car in render form in a lot of detail.

1:43.5

And basically while that happened, or basically just as that finished, Ferrari then issued all of those photos, really high-res, loads of, really high-res digital images. And then obviously, only a few minutes later, the car rolled out at Fiorano for the shakedown. So you immediately had the real car and what I like about Ferrari I mean it'll be

2:02.0

difficult to do something but they don't even try to stop people from watching from Fiorano because

2:07.4

you can see it from the from the public access road so you've got photographers there and fans there
