Summary

King County’s Drug Diversion Court is celebrating its 30th anniversary. It was one of the first programs in the nation to help people clear their criminal records, if they enter treatment and stop using drugs. But amidst the opioid epidemic, drug court enrollment has shrunk in recent years. KUOW's Amy Radil tells us how King County is hoping to change that.

drug court offers treatment and housing to people whose drug use has led to felony charges.

But despite public concern with addiction and crime, drug court enrollment has declined in recent years.

The Seattle Public Library will host a naturalization ceremony today at the central branch at 11 o'clock.

30 fresh U.S. citizens will take the oath of allegiance. They come from across the globe,

including China, Ukraine, and Germany. It's all in celebration of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day,

week. Seattle City Council is scheduled to take a final vote tomorrow on two proposals related to

prostitution and drug use. They would create a stay out of areas of prostitution or soap zone and

stay out of drug areas or soda zone. The laws would essentially bar people from

certain areas of the city if they've been charged with or convicted of certain offenses.

A council committee unanimously approved the bills last week despite mixed public comment.
