I think when you look at it right now, everybody's going to remember that they traded away the guy that was in position to succeed Tom Brady.

And if Tom Brady wanted to walk away at this time, and he had done it after the season,

they could have used a franchise tag on Jimmy Garoppolo and not let him get away.

But they let their future get away.

They traded away the future, which is a difficult proposition.

So again, I don't know that it's Tom Brady having the leverage, but I think if he were to walk away at this point in the unlikely event that he would walk away at this point, I think people would say, whoa, how did we go from trading Garoppolo in October to Brady walking away in the spring?

Something broke down between those two courses of action.

Well, they never should have traded the guy. They never should have traded him. You had the next guy. I mean, this is one of those things where you say, like, all right, it's over, it's dumb with they did it. A mistake of that magnitude, you don't get past. I'm sorry. Now, unless you hit it again on the next pick, then it goes away. I just don't like the odds of that. I think it's hard to find quarterbacks. So they had him. Belichick knew it. Belichick knew it. That's why this thing was as difficult as it was because he knew it. He drafted the guy and he hit it. And he said, here you go. And that thing you read from the Wickershame story yesterday. Let me give you more. But keep going.

I just think Belichick looked at and said, when Kraft suggested one way or another that

Belichick could not keep Garopolo, Belichick sat there and said, you've got to be kidding me.

Are you serious? Do you understand what we have here? We're going to give this away? Are you nuts?

That's what his mindset was. And so now... And Brady convinced Kraft that he was all in.

get a couple months later. And Brady's talking about spending more time with his family. If I were craft, I would be pissed. Oh, he should be livid. And you know what? The thing is, it'll be just as bad, or it should be just as bad. From our standpoint, the organization standpoint, if we're having the same discussion next year, one year's not enough. Brady, you can't trade Garoppolo. I told you. Brady owes you three. Oh my gosh. They sacrificed 10 years when they traded Garoppolo. Brady's got to give him a chunk of that. Brady owes you three. Said that from day one. He owes you three. At least owes you this contract. That's two more years. And then he owes you another one.

If he's going to live up to all of his nonsense from the last couple of years, playing to 45, I have all the answers.
