The thing this year about cancelling your through hike is everybody's doing it, right?

Seeing so many people cancel their through hikes at this point or get off trail when they were already on

trail it feels like yeah it feels like I'm still part of a through hiking community and it's just a

community that's making a very different decision this year.

This year.

This is Lindsay Falkenberg.

She's talking about the through hike of the Continental Divide Trail or CDT

that she and her partner Kyle had planned to start in June.

The CDT runs 3,100 miles between Mexico and Canada.

Lindsay was going to hike at Southbound

and had budgeted about five months to do it.

Many of us have had cancellations this spring

due to COVID-19, weddings, graduation, speaking

engagements, work opportunities.

I could go on, but honestly, I don't really want to.

It's been a lot.

So moving on, even though I've never done a long-through hike, where you hike thousands of miles

end-to-end on a trail like the Pacific Crest Trail or the Appalachian Trail, I've always been fascinated

by them and the lessons and parallels you can find between a challenge like that and everyday life.

So when I heard about through hikers rethinking their 2020 hikes,
