Summary

In this episode, I sit down with Kelly and Allison, the founders of Branch Basics, to talk about safer products for your home and why they matter for your health. Kelly and Allison’s journey started with their own health struggles and a desire to create safer living spaces for their families. Through research and learning about the chemicals in everyday products, they discovered how much our homes can impact our well-being—and they’ve made it their mission to help others make smarter choices. We cover: The Impact of Everyday Chemicals: How common household products can affect health, including hormonal imbalances, chronic pain, and other issues. The Power of Safer Living: How small changes—like swapping toxic products for safer alternatives—can lead to noticeable improvements in overall health and energy. Rethinking Cleaning Products: Why strong chemical smells don’t equal cleanliness, and how simple, natural ingredients can keep your home safe for your family. If you’re curious about making your home healthier and safer—or want practical ways to reduce chemical exposure without sacrificing a functional space—this episode is for you! Guest Bios Allison Evans Allison Evans is the co-founder of Branch Basics and lives in Texas with her husband, three daughters, and one son. Her journey to health began after a serious health crisis in college, which led her to specialists across the country. True healing came when she moved to the Texas Hill Country to live with her aunt, Marilee Nelson, and embraced a lifestyle free of toxic chemicals and full of real, whole foods. Inspired by her transformation, Allison co-founded Branch Basics to create safe, non-toxic cleaning products and help others thrive in their health. Kelly Love Kelly Love, also co-founder of Branch Basics, discovered the impact of reducing toxins in her early twenties after growing up on the standard American diet and using conventional household products. Simple changes in her home and daily routine transformed her health—relieving dry, itchy eyes, painful menstrual cramps, joint and muscle pain, and even body odor. Passionate about making wellness practical and accessible, Kelly now helps others create healthier homes through Branch Basics. She lives in Jackson, Mississippi, with her husband and four children. 1:01.6

trying to be a mom and running a business. I think we covered a multitude of topics. We did. And maybe we'll

1:07.5

delve into some of that as we get going but i'm curious to know why did you start

1:12.9

branch basics and as i talked to a lot of people usually there is a help journey or something that

1:19.1

caused them to start this so i'm curious yeah yeah we joke that you have to either be sick or smart

1:24.5

to wake up right you know and so i was the sick one and Kelly was the smart one.

1:30.8

And so our other co-founder is my aunt, Marily, and she is just amazing. I wish she was sitting here

1:36.7

with us today. But she's in the Texas Hill country. She has her own health journey that we can

1:40.9

talk about in a little bit. But essentially, I was kind of the glue that brought the three of us together because my body crumbled in college. So Kelly and I were at the University

of Texas and Austin together. And I had grown up in Houston, standard American diet,

1:55.1

healthy, according to the world, you know, on birth control because I had severe acne. I was on acutane. I had my period once and it never came back. And so I was diagnosed with severe polycystic ovarian syndrome, but still just kind of thinking all these things were normal because everyone else around me had things going on. And even at like a young age, I kept in body odor, but just thinking, oh, that must just be how I am. But now looking back, I'm like the soy formula, the Eggland's best eggs, you know, all the different things that we now can look back and draw connections. So yeah, I was just the girl that could not get pregnant naturally. I was told that in high school, there's no way with the amount of cyst and your ovaries that you will ever be able to conceive naturally. So just take birth control indefinitely, come back when you're ready to conceive. And that was it. And I remember specifically asking the nurse practitioner when I was 17, is there anything that I can change or did I do anything to cause this? And it was like an emphatic, no. So many more, you know,

2:53.4

young ladies are getting this and this is totally normal. There's nothing you can do about it.

2:58.5

So I owned it, went off to college and came down with pretty serious chronic pain that, of course,

3:05.1

I didn't relate at all to any other issues in my body. And I just sought,

3:09.5

you know, all the different medical doctors advice. And I was doing PT and ralthing and acupuncture.

3:14.4

I mean, Eastern to Western medicine. I was on hydrocodine and muscle relaxers and painkillers all
