I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief John Bickley. It's Wednesday, September 18th, and this is your

morning wire afternoon update. In an attempt to head off an economic slowdown, the Federal Reserve has cut interest rates for

the first time since the pandemic, reducing borrowing costs by a half a point.

According to the Fed, the move which comes just 48 days before the election

is aimed at relieving pressure on households and businesses that are currently struggling.

The Fed's decision comes as inflation remains elevated, though showing some small instances of progress.

The benchmark rate now sits between 4.75 and 5%.

The move also comes amid growing concern over a slowing job market.

Here's Fed Chair Jerome Powell giving further insight at a press conference.

This recalibration of our policy stance will help maintain the strength of the economy and the labor market and will continue to enable further progress on inflation as we begin the process of moving toward a more neutral stance. We are not on any preset course.

is moving forward with a vote to avoid a government shutdown,

linking the bill with the Save Act to crack down on non-citizen voting.

Daily Wire Deputy Managing Editor Tim Rice has the latest.

Johnson's plan includes a six month extension of the current funding levels and require

states to verify citizenship for voter registration, a move largely opposed by Democrats.
