Federal judges are going to have to be the last firewall to protect our democracy,

particularly when Donald Trump's FBI and its Department of Justice comes into federal judges on an ex parte,

meaning they're by themselves with no defense lawyer on the other side,

and ask those judges for search warrants and wiretaps and the rest, whether it's a regular

federal judge or it's a federal judge that is in the FISA court, the foreign intelligence

surveillance court. They are going to be the ones that are going to secure our democracy.

I'm going to break it down for you right here. I'm Michael Popok on the Midas Touch Network and on Legal A.F. There's a great op-ed piece today written by a former

federal judge, Nancy Gertner, and Joel Cohen, a former federal prosecutor who says in their

title, what judges can do for the rule of law under Trump. Let me break that down for you.

I know we've spent a fair amount of,

and giving a fair amount of understandable criticism

of federal judges in the legal AF world that I occupy.

We call out, especially the Trumpers,

who seem to abandon the rule of law,

decide with Donald Trump on key constitutional and other issues.

But let's take the plane up 30,000 feet and look down at the landscape of the federal judiciary

and the importance of the federal judiciary.

There are a thousand or more federal judges. Many of them have been appointed by Democrats, including

over 250 by Joe Biden and Obama and Clinton and the like. I think there's even a Carter senior judge

still around. They, in the various places that you can think of, mainly

Democratic states have democratically appointed judges, federal judges who are appointed by Democratic

presidents. What the op-ed piece is calling for, and I redouble my call for it as well,
