I am rarely rendered speechless, but I kind of was when I saw this headline on the New York Times. Supreme Court clears way for

0:23.2

California voting map, the subhead. The state's Republican Party had asked the justices to step in and

0:28.8

block the new congressional maps, which give an advantage to Democrats before the midterms.

0:34.4

I'm going to do my best not to be speechless because I need to talk to you guys about this.

0:40.2

Why is there so shocking?

0:42.8

Well, because it benefits Democrats for this decision to be reached.

0:49.1

Of course, we don't know who signed the order.

0:51.4

It doesn't give us a vote count, so we don't know if it was 5-4 or 6-3 in favor.

2030. And it is then that based on the new population data, congressional maps are redrawn

1:50.4

or done away with altogether or what have you. It is not supposed to happen in a nonsensus year.

1:58.2

And yet, Republicans in Texas decided that they were going to take the

2:03.5

opportunity, even though it's unconstitutional, to change the map to create essentially five

2:13.6

seats for Republicans, putting them completely out of reach of Democrats.

2:22.4

So it was not surprising when the corrupt illegitimate super majority of the Supreme Court said,

2:27.8

sure, Texas, go ahead and do this unconstitutional thing to help you hang on to control of the House after the 2026 midterms.

2:31.7

For a change, Democrats decided to play hardball, to fight fire with fire, if you will,

2:39.0

and states like California, Maryland, New York, Illinois, decided that they too were going
