Mass firings have begun at federal agencies.

Workers and Union sources told CNN that the process is underway for probationary employees

at the Department of Education and the Small Business Administration.

The large-scale layoffs marked the first from the administration, as President Donald

Trump and Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency aimed to dramatically shrink the

federal workforce.

Until now, federal employees across all government agencies had only been placed on paid administrative

leave.

As CNN's Paula Reid tells us, the move comes as a federal court yesterday allowed the administration's

deferred resignation program to move forward.

The judge has ruled that the unions don't have what is called standing.
